Supported Devices

To ensure every student can participate fully in class, AV1 is supported on a select range of devices that meet our performance and reliability standards.

AV1 includes two different services that you may access from your own device:

AV1 App – used by the student to connect to their AV1.

AV1 Admin – the web-based administration portal used by schools and organisations to manage their AV1s.

The technical requirements are different for each service.

AV1 App
Supported devices and operating systems

The AV1 App is designed for use on supported smartphones and tablets. Using an older or unsupported device may affect video and audio quality, connection stability or overall app performance.

Apple devices

The AV1 App supports:

  • iPhones running iOS 16.6 or newer
  • iPads running iPadOS 16.6 or newer

We recommend keeping your device updated to the latest operating system version available for your device.

Android devices

The AV1 App supports devices running Android 14 or newer, with Google Play services installed and allowed to update, plus the necessary hardware requirements

For the best experience, we recommend recent devices from established manufacturers that provide regular software and security updates, including:

  • Samsung – Galaxy S series and Galaxy A3x series or newer
  • Google Pixel – Pixel 6a or newer
  • Motorola
  • OnePlus
  • Xiaomi – Redmi Note and Mi series

Performance can vary between Android models, even when they use the same version of Android.

Devices not supported by the AV1 App

We do not recommend or provide technical support for:

  • Chromebooks
  • Laptops and desktop computers
  • Devices without Google Play services, for example Huawei and HarmonyOS devices
  • Lenovo tablets and other entry-level or budget Android tablets that do not meet the necessary hardware requirements
  • Devices from lesser-known or unverified manufacturers
  • Older devices that lack the hardware capabilities required for reliable video and audio streaming
  • Devices that no longer receive software or security updates

The AV1 App may still be possible to install on some unsupported devices. However, we cannot guarantee that it will work reliably, and we may not be able to troubleshoot device-specific issues.

AV1 Admin
Supported browsers

AV1 Admin is a web-based service and does not require you to install an application.

For security, reliability and compatibility with AV1 Admin's features, you need to use a supported and reasonably up-to-date web browser.‍

AV1 Admin currently supports:

  • Google Chrome: the current release, or the Extended Stable release your IT department manages. As of October 2026 that is version 154 or newer
  • Microsoft Edge: the current release, or the Extended Stable release your IT department manages. As of October 2026 that is version 154 or newer
  • Mozilla Firefox 153 or newer, including Firefox ESR 153
  • Safari 26 or newer

AV1 Admin can also be accessed from supported mobile browsers:

  • Safari on iOS/iPadOS 16.4 or newer
  • Chrome for Android 154 or newer
  • Samsung Internet: not supported. Samsung has not rapidly fixed the vulnerability due to compromised eMudhra certificates. This leads us to recommend Chrome or another supported browser instead.

If your browser is older than these versions, you will need to update it before using AV1 Admin.

Keeping your browser and operating system up to date also helps ensure that you receive the latest security updates from your browser and device manufacturer.

Protection against the October 2026 certificate-authority incident was delivered automatically by Apple, Google, Microsoft and Mozilla. Keep automatic updates switched on and restart your device or browser once.

Minimum versions last reviewed: October 2026.
